The Mara Meeting Observer is a Chrome extension provided by SESSION (The Session Lab). It helps you review and improve how you show up in your own real meetings. This policy explains what the extension does with your data. It is written to be plain and honest.
When you choose to record a meeting, the extension captures the meeting window or tab you select, including its audio, and your microphone. While it runs, your microphone is turned into text using the speech recognition built into your browser. In Chrome that service is operated by Google, so your own voice is sent there to be transcribed. Only your side is transcribed. The other people in the meeting are never turned into text and their words never reach Mara.
When you stop, the recording is saved to your computer and the transcript of your own words, with a few basic meeting details, is sent to the Mara service so Mara can give you coaching feedback.
Your video and audio recording stays on your own computer. Always. The file is saved straight to your downloads. There is no way to send it to us: the Mara service has no route that accepts a meeting recording, so one cannot be uploaded by you, by us, or by accident.
The file saved on your computer captures the meeting window you selected, which means the other people in the call are in it. That recording is yours and it stays with you, but so does the responsibility for it. Your own organisation's rules on recording meetings still apply, and so does anything you owe the other people in the room. Please tell them, and follow your employer's policy. Mara does not see that file and cannot act on your behalf about it.
The transcript and meeting details are used only to generate your personal coaching debrief and to track patterns across your meetings over time. This is the core purpose of the product. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
We do not share your data with any other third parties. No recording is shared with anyone, because no recording ever leaves your computer.
You decide when to record. Nothing is captured unless you click Start. You can delete any saved meeting from your Library, and you can remove the extension from Chrome at any time. To request deletion of your account data, contact us at the address below.
Saved meeting debriefs remain in your account until you delete them or close your account. Recordings on your own computer are under your control and are never held by us at any point, so there is nothing on our side to retain or delete.
